Bidlisiw Foundation Inc.

Bidlisiw Foundation is a child-focused organization committed to advancing the welfare and protection of Children in Need of Special Protection (CNSP), particularly those living in urban poor and informal settler communities. Its work centers on preventing and responding to cases of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and other forms of vulnerability affecting children and young people, while strengthening the capacities of families and communities to provide safe and nurturing environments.

Bidlisiw in its many years of existence has imbibed and crafted the following principles that became the cornerstone of its helping process…

Every child/individual has her/his own pace for every stage that she/he will go through in life, thus support provided should be client centered and case specific.

Behavior change does not always occur in a straight line. Lapses are part of the process, thus an individual may avail herself/himself of services whenever ready.

Provide access, opportunities and hope for the most marginalized children, families and communities

Helping process is a shared vision between the client and the service provider.

A person/child can express freely his/her thoughts and feelings in a safe environment where everyone practices the principles of non-discrimination, confidentiality and non-judgemental attitude.

A person/child has the capacity to reach his/her full potential, capable of change through strengthening his/her recovery capital with positive adult and peer support.

Commitment of service provider to self-care is vital in the helping process to ensure caring, nurturing and accepting environment.

Founded by

The Foundation was founded by Philippe Guichandut, a representative of InterAide, a French agency. It was started by 8 women together with InterAide, a French NGO; they gave the name “Bidlisiw” an old visayan term for rays of the rising sun which symbolizes hope. Only in 1994 up to present when Bidlisiw became a Filipino-managed NGO.
